While driving through eastern Wyoming, I saw a number of plain, blue vehicle with tinted windows. They were clearly some sort of government vehicles, complete with red/blue lights, but what? I saw another one in Amarillo this morning. I found this video on YouTube which shows almost exactly what I saw. One YT commenter states:

National Guard Civil Support Team (CST) for hazmat and pandemic mass casualty events. The one with the dish is the communications vehicle, a suburban is also the package with the comms. Others have tents, mass spectrometer and other supplies for hazmat hot work zones.

I suppose that’s possible, but it sounds a bit too Resident Evil for me. I’ve done some googling but can’t find anything definitive. Anybody have any ideas? Dukie, you out there?

Update : That description seems to be spot on.

They are cruising between shuttered Walmarts that have been converted to secret detention centers.

Jade Helm never ended.

I wonder if the civilian truck based shelters are cheaper or more expensive than the humvee based ones.

Certainly less noticeable. I understand that they don’t want to be driving around in trucks that say US GOVERNMENT BIOTERROR RESPONSE TEAM because people will freak out. Looking like this, I bet most people don’t even notice. But it would be nice if it at least said US NATIONAL GUARD on it or something.

There was a big international military exercise going on in Custer SP while we where there. This could have been part of it. Who knows? These days, it’s hard not to put on the tin foil hat.

I would say Humvee since the NG could retrofit other shelters for this purpose. The civilian model would have to be purchased new. If we are talking new from the ground up, the Humvee would be at least twice the price. I would suspect the maintenance on the F-450 or whatever would be cheaper as well.

I don’t care about the truck. What I care about is if you succeeded in the Big Texan 72 oz steak challenge.

No, but I saw the signs.

Given where you saw them, it is worth mentioning that the Defense Threat Reduction Agency has also been known to use trucks that look like that. Usually there should be at least several them, and they would have some degree of armor and have a team of well-armed, well-trained bad mother fuckers in the back (I know a former recon operator who got recruited for that job) . Also in the vicinity should’ve been a white semi and trailer that may or may not have had some real special security features and cargo.

No reason to stop. The steak there isn’t especially good, and the place is painfully Texas.

“painfully Texas” We stopped at Cadillac Ranch today, and saw the 2nd Amendment Cowboy. I’ll have photos of that later. CR was a very depressingly American place.

Did not notice a white semi, but I think the grouping I saw closely matches what is shown in the video. Saw another single vehicle with numerous antennae in Amarillo this morning. So, for whatever reason, they are out and about.

If you’re headed out West sometime, Cattleman’s Steak House at Indian Cliffs (outside El Paso) is the Texas destination steak house to stop at. A vastly better steak (but not larger, and never free), and the place has legitimately interesting history, artifacts and stuff to see. Is considered to be one of the best steak houses in the country.
